I don't want to wait for the dishes to wash, or the clothes to dry, or sit in traffic, or wait for a favorite holiday to arrive, or to hear God answer my prayers. Yes, I know that took a crazy hard turn, but it's the real life moments that bring us into reality. We live in an instantaneous world. Where you don't even have to wait for the commercial to be over, because Netflix doesn't have commercials. Anyone else grow up folding clothes in front of the tv, and run to put them away during the commercial so you didn't miss anything? Now you can pause it, rewind it, skip commercials, have it instantly. Don't get me wrong there are many instant things I enjoy and wouldn't trade. I don't want to bring my water from a well outside, or hand wash my clothes, or hang them to dry, or wait for the hot water. I am as spoiled as the rest of us. Which is why, I think, that being patient is so hard. We are surrounded by fast paced everything. We have a wealth of knowledge at our finger tips just waiting to be explored. (And some things I wish weren't there to be explored.)<br />
<br />
So, in this crazy life (that I don't want to trade for a time without electricity),<br />
How do we manage to slow down?<br />
How do we manage to wait? <br />
How do I stop and say, "It's ok to wait."? <br />
<br />
When your child is screaming, and it's bedtime and you're tired, how do you wait for the calm?<br />
When you have no answers for how to pay the bills?<br />
When you have no answers for your wandering child?<br />
When you don't understand . . . (fill in the blank)?<br />
<br />
How do you WAIT?<br />
<br />
Well, if you came here looking for all the answers, I'm sorry I don't have them. Here is what I know. <br />
<br />
Psalm 46:10 says, "Be Still and Know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"<br />
<br />
So here it is. BE STILL. Wait on God. There is nothing in this fast paced world that makes this easy. There is nothing that I can say that will make your anxiety go away. But, God says, "Be still". I always like to look back and see what is going on in a chapter of the Bible before I just take a verse and think it applies. So, the writer here starts the chapter with saying "God is our refuge and strength" and continues to say "even though the earth be removed, and the mountains carried into the sea." <br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Some key words: </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">r<a href="https://www.dictionary.com/browse/refuge?s=ts">efuge</a> -"<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble".</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">even though- "despite the fact."</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">Refuge: if we trust God to be our refuge, then the anxiety is gone. That takes trust, that takes letting go, that takes surrender, that takes letting go (I realize I already said that - it's for me to hear it again.). What if we let go and allowed God to be our safe place, our rest, our shelter. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">Even though: Regardless of what comes next, or what I imagined in my mind, or what my reality seemed (or maybe even is). Even though I am not worthy, even though I don't have the answers, even though I didn't bring this own myself, even though I sinned and did bring this on myself, even though I am broken, even though . . . .</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;">BE STILL - He is GOD</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><br /></span></span>

Is that just me or do all mom's carry a running list of their life in their mind at all times? But there has been a gap in my blogging life as my kids grew up. It came increasingly more important for me to attend to their every need and leave the internet to survive without the wandering inside my mind. Now, I feel I am in a new season of life. My boys are not grown by any stretch, but can at least fix their own drink, find a snack in the drawer, and manage until the sun rises on Saturday morning without me. A new normal. <br />
<br />
Sharing the thoughts in my mind now takes a new purpose. Originally it was to allow friends and family to enjoy the journey of our lives. Now it is to walk alongside the wives and mothers who just need to know, "I AM NOT ALONE!" There will be moments of truth and #reallife talks. And moments of harsh realizations that sometimes, 'It is my fault, my own doings, that cause my stress'. And hopefully, some encouragement to Breath. Just "Be Still" and Breath.<br />
<br />
Please note, I have a wonderful husband, the Spiritual Leader of our home, patient with my stubbornness, and brings calm to my stress. I could not be the mom and wife that I am without him. So, "I am not alone." But your story may be different, please don't quit reading if this is not your life. Let's walk alongside this journey together.<br />
<br />
Challenge for today: (and hopefully this week or month or year)<br />
<br />
I am always looking at my phone. <br />
Yep, I said it. <br />
Although, on the Mother's Day video of cute toddlers, it was not my child who said "My mom's favorite thing to do is be on Facebook." That was an awkward hilarious moment. My child did however say, "My mom's favorite thing to do is fold clothes." To which my husband responded, "Maybe he meant, 'I wish my mom would fold clothes'" (Eye roll)<br />
<br />
I use my phone:<br />
to check the weather<br />
to check the time<br />
to check SnapChat<br />
to ignore the cartoon that is on the tv<br />
to unwind<br />
to avoid doing laundry (or the dishes)<br />
to look up a recipe on Pinterest that I will choose later (multiple times) not to cook<br />
<br />
My phone keeps my from:<br />
doing laundry<br />
doing the dishes<br />
watching cartoons that I have seen a thousand times<br />
actually cooking dinner<br />
getting up to do anything productive<br />
enjoying life in real time (instead of through the camera app)<br />
<br />
So, what would happen if . . .<br />
<br />
Every time I reached for my phone to do any of the above tasks, I instead STOPPED and prayed.<br />
<br />
What if I quit wasting time and used my time to talk to God?<br />
<br />
How many minutes a day, of non-sense,<br />
could I spend talking to God?<br />
would I spend talking to God? <br />
will I spend talking to God?<br />
IF I reached for words instead of my phone?<br />
<br />
Anybody else want to take this on with me and see what God is willing to do in our lives if we just Stop and give HIM a minute?<br />
<br />McMillen Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09476337682783963829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2708322006375393014.post-57928429149207459472014-11-11T22:48:00.001-06:002014-11-11T22:48:38.971-06:00Please excuse us while we grow.1. Happy 1 month birthday to Henry! There will be pics, sorry not today.<div><br></div><div>2. I'm going to take this opportunity to tell you about my child. Since this is my blog, I can do that. <br><div><br><div>3. Elliot was sitting on the couch with me this morning and asked to hold Henry. So I propped them up and went to make some toast for Elliot and I. Henry started crying and Elliot says, "Mom, Henry needs a bottle. Can you fix him one, so I can feed him?" Absolutely, that is what I am talking about! Big brother knowing needs of the little one and then feeding him! </div><div><br></div><div>4. Elliot's imagination is, well I'm having trouble describing it with a word. Our couch cushions are often on the floor acting as boats that are keeping us from the sharks in the ocean. Almost anything can turn into a fishing pool, including his toy drill attached to his toy paint brush. His bicycle quickly changes from a fire truck to ambulance and then tractor. (all of which are required to wear helmets while they work!) </div></div></div><div><br></div><div>5. If you stop by for a visit between late afternoon and bedtime, Please excuse the mess. There will be toys everywhere, part of the supper dishes will still be out, and the counter will be cluttered. I assure you I have straightened and cleaned up no less than 3 times before supper, but it will be all over the place again. I will clean and straighten most of it again when the kids are in bed, but just take this as my apology and fair warning. (Because you will probably find me sitting in the floor building blocks with my kids!)</div><div><br></div><div>6. We started tonight trying to rework our bedtime routine since Henry's arrival. We started at 7:45 with a snack, followed by a bath and then to bed. Henry took a quick dip in the bath with Elliot, pjs, and then his snack came after bath and during story time. I left Elliot (with no tears) in his bed after reading a few books. I swaddled Henry and laid him in his bed awake (this is a first for me). I checked on Elliot a good half hour later only to find him decorating his bed with stickers. I left him alone. He was quiet and in his bed. Check and check! Two more times with him trading out his books and reading pictures. More than an hour later he was finally sleeping. Again, no tears, no fuss, it was a good night! </div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHMCbuSEVEXM7zY4ZVgZVjLJkhv0p381aUfKuVQb0U5dexfq-OI-DPrtye_Y02IiBJIx5hzXwR6e0v4MSOOWCMpeLimREt9LUek-eUWp7GmM9ncgkTXNOW9sDW6j6KvfwLF4Zg-Yg3wjk/s640/blogger-image-792248159.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHMCbuSEVEXM7zY4ZVgZVjLJkhv0p381aUfKuVQb0U5dexfq-OI-DPrtye_Y02IiBJIx5hzXwR6e0v4MSOOWCMpeLimREt9LUek-eUWp7GmM9ncgkTXNOW9sDW6j6KvfwLF4Zg-Yg3wjk/s640/blogger-image-792248159.jpg"></a></div>McMillen Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09476337682783963829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2708322006375393014.post-49599822976789229932014-10-24T21:45:00.000-05:002014-10-24T21:49:05.831-05:002 weeks, 2 boys, Double the fun<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<br />
I am currently 35 weeks and counting with a due date of October 10. I hope you enjoyed playing our game. It was fun making up the riddles, but then again I'm a little bit of a nerd! I have a cute video of Elliot announcing baby Henry's name, but I am not finding an easy way of posting that anywhere! I will work on that again, but my brain is continuing to sink into mommy pregnancy brain. <br />
<br />
I got the baby's carseat out the other day and Elliot wanted to sit in it. He certainly looked like a big boy sitting in that car seat. Then when I moved the straps down to where the baby will need it . . . there are no words to remind you of how small a newborn will be!<br />
<br />
Justin and Elliot watched a video of Elliot eating apple sauce for the first time at about 4 months old. He is whining through most of the video. This was Justin's remembering wake- up call of how babies communicate! We are as ready as we know how to be. Bags are mostly packed, car seat installed, is there more we should be doing? I am trying to enjoy every moment that I can with Elliot, which isn't easy at 35 weeks! He has really started asking his daddy to do lots with him and for him!<br />

After months of deliberation, we have decided on a name for Baby Mc #2! <div><br></div><div>This time around we thought just giving the letters would be too easy, so each letter will be revealed one at a time through a riddle. </div><div><br></div><div>Things to keep in mind:</div><div>1) You may not ask questions</div><div>2) I won't answer your questions </div><div>3) Don't ruin it for others playing. If you figure something out, you may not want to comment online just in case others are still figuring it out. </div><div>4) Yes, we will share the name after you have had time to think.</div><div>5) Yes, I realize you have more important things to do than this! </div><div><br></div><div>I will start posting this Monday, September 1 and will post each day until all riddles have been shared. </div><div><br></div><div>This is a pic of our precious baby boy at 36 weeks! <ol>
<li> Your mowing peacefully in your yard, when you realize you are humming the theme song "Thomas the Train" to yourself.</li>
<li>You volunteered to mow rather than corral your 2 year old in the house.</li>
<li>You and your husband have discussed why Daniel Tiger wears pants to bed but not to school.</li>
<li>You emailed your husband to tell him Daniel Tiger was going to be a big brother because you were so excited about the timeliness of this new season! </li>
<li>Your toddler doesn't like Daniel Tiger now that he has become a big brother. </li>
<li>Your child(ren) have much nicer <strike>bedroom furniture</strike> everything than you.</li>
<li>You really don't remember what life was like before they were born.</li>
<li>You can name more trains than just "Thomas"</li>
<li>You try to name the trains in the puzzle before your toddler.</li>
<li>You were excited the first day you picked your toddler up from the babysitter with the same pair of pants, he was dropped off in. (Hence, an accident free day!)</li>
<li>Pregnant brain is worse the second time around.</li>
<li>You still remember that first "blowout" in the car that you prayed you didn't hear, but your nose told you otherwise. Just laugh, the tears won't help you clean it up!</li>
<li>The first time your child says I love you, and every time he says it after that. There are no words.</li>
<li>The first time your child says, "I not need your help. I'm a big boy." You're thankful for independence, but hope he still lets you rock him to sleep. </li>
<li>You pack PJ's in his bag every time he goes to Grandma's house just in case he convinces her he needs to stay. (Which by the way is less than a mile from the house.)</li>
<li>Every time your child spends the night away, your husband comments on how much he misses him and you secretly wonder if your a bad parent as you fall asleep at 8pm on the couch. </li>
<li>The first time you are without your child, you can't decide between eating, sleeping, or taking a hot bath. So you grab a snack and cry yourself to sleep in the hot bath. </li>
<li>You are thankful that no one could actually describe the first 6 weeks of a newborn. You try not to ruin it for other new moms.</li>
<li>You can't believe someone made a movie of your life that you cried most of the way through. "Mom's Night Out"</li>
<li>You just realized as your blogging that in 7 weeks, you will start over with the first 6 weeks of a newborn. (I might cry myself to sleep in my hot bath again.)</li>

<br />
<u>Day 3</u>: The question today is what about the timer. Is it still necessary or not? So, we went with not. Wake Up - Dry Pull Up! No timer. After about an hour and a half, we take a restroom break. The next one I leave up to him. I am vacuuming and he is playing with Ty. He runs to the bathroom and shuts the door! Unfortunately he was rolling all of the toilet paper off the roll, but he did need to go (That COUNTS!) Lunch, Break, Nap, Break, Trip to Town. Yes we are brave. No problems! Day 3 is a success! No timer, but lots of reminding and several forced trips! On the plus side, he only asked for candy once.<br />
<br />
<u>Day 4</u>: Today has been fairly smooth, no timer is still working fine. We are both learning how this works. One accident early, one stopping to tell me he needed to go! Its nap time again, so we will see how the day ends. The question at the end of everyday, what should be different tomorrow to move this process forward. I should probably go and read back over some of those blogs to figure that out!McMillen Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09476337682783963829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2708322006375393014.post-43703296667462912362014-06-18T15:56:00.001-05:002014-06-18T15:56:16.039-05:00Potty Training 101Goals for the summer:<div>1) Get Elliot out of diapers</div><div>2) Convince him to sleep in his bed</div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">My precious new momma friend Meg, is doing awesome with her sweet new baby Jaxon! She read the book, made a plan, and is sticking with it! She is amazing! Check out her blog link to the side! </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Congrats to Meg and Hunter on sweet baby Jaxon! We are so happy for you! Welcome to motherhood! </span></div><div><br></div><div>I did not read any books before Elliot came along, except for the one that tells about their growth during pregnancy! (Very short chapters, once a week) We rocked, fed, cried, and slept in no particular order. I expect their will be more to this story come October! We did not follow the rules from birthing class. So it's not surprising that I didn't read a book or make much of plan for this chapter of our life either! I did read several blogs and some magazine articles. I took a few tips from those and decided to go for it! This is the first week of summer that I have had free and am determined that he will be trained before the beach in July.</div><div><br></div><div><u>Monday</u> - A special trip to the store for Big Boy undies. Which was perfect for my child who is a shopper. He also found a tank top, shorts, and some socks! But because we have a budget, we left with just the essentials - undies (of his choice) and one pack of pull ups only for nighttime! <i>I should also mention here that we are completely out of diapers! It's my motivation for success! </i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div><u>Tuesday - </u> Get up and get started! Undies from the start. <i>I made up the rest of the plan while having breakfast with my mom. </i>The plan - set a timer for 45 minutes. When the timer goes off we stop and take care of business. I told Elliot the plan. He enjoys a good schedule. I set the timer on my oven, which is loud enough to be heard through the house. Elliot knows the plan! To spare the details and not be too embarrassing, I'll sum it up! </div><div><br></div><div>2 accidents (one of which I claim as my fault)</div><div>3 uh-ohhs (which had a positive outcome)</div><div>5 success stories (only one load of laundry for the day)</div><div>Total - Day 1 - 50% success </div><div><br></div><div><i>Fun quotes from Elliot</i></div><div>"I get candy bar now?" (This was his part of the plan)</div><div>"High five, momma! Good job!" (saying congrats to himself)</div><div>"Yeah! Time for candy bar!" </div><div>-- <i>He loves picking out which pair he gets to wear!</i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div><u>Wednesday</u><i> - </i>Same plan, timer every 45 minutes. The plan he developed of rewarding each success with a piece of candy. <i>It is not a full candy bar and his favorite today has been lifesaver mints. </i>It is currently nap time and we have had only one uh-ohh and no accidents! </div><div><br></div><div>Favorite quote of today - After not taking care of business, he wants a piece of candy. Uhm, no. His reply, "I try again, so I can get candy?" It worked, and he didn't have an accident. For week one we are getting on track. </div><div><br></div><div>Concerning side effects: My child may possibly feel the urge every time he hears a timer or bell! </div>McMillen Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09476337682783963829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2708322006375393014.post-42404584355384276342014-05-31T14:42:00.001-05:002014-05-31T14:42:55.739-05:00My sweet family<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaI6JPUBwXGRfvlWLJOyyxJdKR_ww0FCkzh196SBIhk_9QCp737MNcpRd30-6E1nero-cZvZ6dZK1Un9GcjMJeQBOjXlMXelePBArYu5IqED5ZWldAtYLDfVEljgiym9j9FwERkJUcRvo/s640/blogger-image--143610560.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaI6JPUBwXGRfvlWLJOyyxJdKR_ww0FCkzh196SBIhk_9QCp737MNcpRd30-6E1nero-cZvZ6dZK1Un9GcjMJeQBOjXlMXelePBArYu5IqED5ZWldAtYLDfVEljgiym9j9FwERkJUcRvo/s640/blogger-image--143610560.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">My brother and his precious family are adopting! After 2 years have past, I had one brief moment where I thought, 'that might be fun again.' As a busy mom of a toddler and a baby on the way, we will see just exactly how long this will last.<br>
<br>
Elliot is 2, full of energy, and keeps us busy! He, like any little boy, loves to be outside, work on the lawn mower, spread dirt all over his face as he works to find only the weeds in the garden and not the onions!<br>
<br>
<h2><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2GT7x18Jx0Lxe4I2sL3Hq4e_8Oho4TJJdVyA2vKY2321O2Ebq-uPZ8QZEmG4lGQeIcYgJj2jxH76phO2eyk8SOHt_eROMBgKz1o0gNTSpcE6mQQB1yxgrhDtjZIv4gcRUnXS9P4bMDxA/s640/blogger-image-1791785865.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2GT7x18Jx0Lxe4I2sL3Hq4e_8Oho4TJJdVyA2vKY2321O2Ebq-uPZ8QZEmG4lGQeIcYgJj2jxH76phO2eyk8SOHt_eROMBgKz1o0gNTSpcE6mQQB1yxgrhDtjZIv4gcRUnXS9P4bMDxA/s640/blogger-image-1791785865.jpg"></a></div><br></h2>

He is basically just adorable! </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
(You should know he is at his Grandma's house as I'm typing this blog and not having to fight for my iPad!)</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
Lastly, if you're a mom and haven't been to see the movie 'Moms night out!', I highly recommend it! If you still have an adorable sweet baby, the movie will make more sense when your child is about 2 years old. If you are a mom of grown children, go see it to reminisce of all the things your thankful you aren't facing and laugh at us who are. If you have a child and are pregnant, like me, take a box of tissue - I cried because of the reality of life. I cried the next day too! (I'm better now! And I love my sweet baby!)</div>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Elliot is growing too fast! The fact that he is now 4 months old should have been a good clue that the 0-3 month clothes won't fit anymore! Thanks to Meg and Grandma, Elliot did not go without clothes! Here is a picture of Elliot in the cute outfit Meg got for him!</span><br />

However, for reasons you'll learn soon this will not be that book.<br />
<br />
I took pictures on my phone to update you on the house, but I'm not blogging from my phone (so another blog later). The painting is basically done, the trim work too, waiting on cabinets and then the others will finish. I have a beautiful staircase that will be published later.<br />
<br />
Elliot is now 3 months old, but we didn't take pics yet because he has had some tummy aches. Went to the doc yesterday morn, she said zantec and he will be better soon. 2 nights of screaming, tonight's been better.<br />
<br />
Yesterday, I rented a floor buffer with a sanding pad to finish cleaning our new floors. I attempted to use it and now I have a fractured bone in my left hand! Tomorrow at 7am I will have surgery and they will put a plate on that bone. Then off to the beach on Friday for family vacation!!<br />
<br />
This blog is being typed one handed from Justin's new iPad. Pics will be on . . . Well sometime. . .McMillen Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09476337682783963829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2708322006375393014.post-70298081178437308792012-04-29T15:30:00.001-05:002012-04-29T15:30:26.747-05:00Happy Belated<p>April 27 was Elliot’s 2 month birthday!  He shared his birthday with Meg! (Happy Belated Birthday – Hope cooking school was awesome!)   </p> <p>Elliot unfortunately had to celebrate with a Dr. appointment and Round 1 of shots!  He did great, but there were tears.  I have to say the nurse did an amazing job.  She put some medicine in his mouth and he was smacking away (a little distracted and not knowing what was about to happen.)  She had all three shots given before he let out that first “yell”.  It took a few minutes and a few big tears to get him settled, but that was it!  He was great the rest of the day and did lots of napping! </p> <p>I start back at school on Monday (assuming I get this posted by then.)  I have thoroughly enjoyed my time off and I am not overly excited, but I do love my job. (P.S. only 19 more school days ‘til summer!)</p> <p>A few words from Elliot:</p> <p>This is how mom feels about leaving me next week: <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-0xTQYNF4S14/T52k0hJngeI/AAAAAAAAAo4/29_Gqh2kXAk/s1600-h/WP_000565%25255B1%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none;
