Home at the Holiday Inn

Let me start with an apology.  I did plan to update last night after getting settled at the hotel, but I was completely exhausted.  I apologize for anyone who felt withdrawals from the blog.  I will try to redeem myself with this post, however, the Holiday Inn is mostly uneventful.

On Monday, Justin had a CT scan from 3-4pm.  We expected to hear from it on Monday, but that did not happen.  Monday night around midnight (while Justin and I were staying up late as if it were a Friday night!) Justin decides to sneeze!  Painful as it was, it was also a little concerning. Justin asked me to see if he had “pulled” anything.  There was a little clear drainage, so I had the nurse come to look at it as well.  She called the on-call surgeon to come look at the incision.  (Which got us a little concerned).  He said, It looked fine!  He also instructed us what to look for to detect any issues.  After that episode, the surgeon asked if we were going home on Tuesday.  So we explained about waiting for the CT scan results.  The surgeon said he would take a look at it!  The nurse reported to us about a half hour later, that he said the CT looked good.

Tuesday morning, we woke up, ate breakfast and prepared to go home.  (Every morning the BACH – Adult Congenital Heart Team – came around to see how Justin was doing.)  For some reason, the BACH team did not come around during the morning.  So, we ordered lunch.  They finally showed up around 1 or 2.  Agreed the CT looked good!  Then the nurse practitioner came in and went over his discharge summary that she has prepared.  Then our nurse had to write a report as well.  Finally around 5:30pm we were prepared to leave.  Unlike my other hospital discharge experiences, we took our paperwork and walked out!  No wheelchair, no escort, Just have a nice  day!   The taxi ride wasn’t the most pleasant for Justin, but also wasn’t unbearable!

Finally at the hotel, Justin took an hour nap!  Then “not-so-good” Chinese delivery for supper and bedtime!

Today was a productive day – get up early; have a small bite to eat; go back to bed; get back up and eat again; take a shower; shave – what was turning into a full beard; rest; take a stroll around the hotel; send Abigail out for lunch; take a nap; wash some clothes; take a stroll around the hotel; rest; eat supper; take a stroll around the hotel; watch the Phillies win the National League Championship; get ready for bed.

Justin has had a productive day.  Although, he is having trouble getting comfortable between the bed and the couch.  He is really missing his recliner.

We have a follow up appointment with Cardiology.  It was planned for next Wednesday, but they called today to change it to this Friday (trying to get us out of the hotel and on our way home).  The nurse is going to call Thursday morning to tell me if we have the Friday appointment.   If we see the Dr on Friday, all goes well, then maybe home this weekend!!  We don’t know for sure, but I will let you know as soon I we have a plan!!

Wow! Great news! So, you know you could just fly a little further south and join us for party Saturday! Sure you'll feel up to ringing that cowbell app. Although, not sure there will be a reason to ring it. BTW Jason downloaded it in the middle of the Associational Mtg in the back pew of a church and decided to push the button to see what it would do. Oh well, the song and all played. He said when everyone turned around to look, he just turned around and looked behind him as well (as if there was another pew or something).

So glad you are at home in the Holiday Inn! Sounds like a lot of my convalescence days, a lot of sleeping and eating, and just a little bit of walking!
Come home soon!
